The Clemson University Tiger football program will recognize its seniors on November 18, 2023 during the game against the University of North Carolina Tarheels. Seniors will be featured with a solo run down the hill at Frank Howard Memorial Stadium, the famous “Death Valley.” There are twenty seniors on the team this year. In October, Dabo Swinney was quoted, “It takes a lot of hard work on their part. We have
had a 98% graduation rate since I have been coach. We’ve had 100% career placement from 2018 – 2023.” Coach Swinney’s focus is on obtaining that degree, being on campus, on understanding the guys are here as students and not just as athletes. This culture is not just a focus during recruiting or finals, but is a part of the everyday life of a Clemson Tiger.
The 20th ranked Tarheels from UNC will be visiting Death Valley on Saturday, November 18. Since 1897, the Tigers hold a 39-19-1 winning record over the Tarheels, with their last meeting on December 3, 2022 where the Tigers won 39 – 10 in Charlotte for the ACC Championship. This year’s matchup will be another Klubnik vs Maye showdown and the Tigers are expected to win by a single touchdown.
Drake Maye leads the Tarheels offense ranked first in the league and third in the country for passing yards per game. Maye is also ranked second in completion rate (65.8%) and 21 passing touchdowns. Clemson’s second ranked pass defense will be a key in stopping the Tarheel offense. Another important factor in the UNC offense is Omarion Hampton, one of the top running backs in the nation, ranked first in the ACC and second in the country in rushing yardage and averaging six yards per carry.
Cade Klubnik needs to have another big game this year against the Tarheels. After one of Klubnik’s best passing games against Georgia Tech (205 yards and 4 touchdowns), he needs to take full advantage of the Tarheels’ second worst defense in the ACC. Limiting costly mistakes and a run game that is
consistently trending in a positive direction, the Clemson Tigers will have a win after Saturday’s game.
