Clemson fans, let's be honest.

Coming into 2025, we thought it was our year.

The Tigers were fresh off an ACC Championship and a College Football Playoff appearance.

Cade Klubnik was back at quarterback. Bryant Wesco and T.J. Moore looked ready to become

stars. Peter Woods, T.J. Parker, Avieon Terrell, and much of the defense returned. The

expectations were sky high. Many of us believed Clemson would compete for a national

championship.

Instead, Clemson finished 7-6.

It wasn't the season anyone expected. For a fan base accustomed to competing at the highest

level, it was a disappointing year. But 2025 is over. The page has been turned, and now all eyes

are on 2026.

Make no mistake about it, this is a huge year for Dabo Swinney and the Clemson program.

Another 7-6 season would bring plenty of questions. That's just the reality of college football.

Clemson fans expect championships, and when those expectations are not met, people start

asking tough questions.

But here's the good news.

Clemson still has talent. A lot of talent.

At wide receiver, the Tigers may have one of the best duos in the ACC in Bryant Wesco and T.J.

Moore. Both have shown flashes of greatness, and behind them are two talented young

receivers in Nadeem Burroughs and Gordon Sellers who look ready for bigger roles.

At running back, Clemson has exciting young talent in sophomore Gideon Davidson along with

transfer Chris Johnson from SMU, one of the fastest players in college football.

The offensive line may be one of the most talented groups Clemson has put together in years.

Braden Jacobs, Collin Sadler, Harris Sewell, Elijah Thurmon, and Carter Scruggs give the

Tigers plenty of size and ability up front. The biggest concern is experience. This group is still

young, but the talent is undeniable.

Defensively, Clemson may actually be faster and more athletic than it was a year ago.

Sammy Brown returns as one of the leaders of the defense, while Will Heldt is expected to play

a major role. The Tigers also added key portal pieces such as Elliot Washington and Markus

Strong, giving the defense additional depth and playmaking ability.

The biggest question mark on the roster is quarterback.

Former four star prospects Christopher Vizzina and Tait Reynolds are battling for the job. Both

are talented. Both have tremendous upside. The challenge is that neither has much game

experience. Heading into fall camp, Vizzina appears to have the edge, but Reynolds is right

there behind him.

Whoever wins the job will have plenty of weapons around him.

Now let's talk about where Clemson stands in the ACC.

For the first time in a long time, Clemson enters a season without being the clear favorite to win

the conference.

That honor belongs to Miami.

The Hurricanes are coming off a national championship game appearance and have all the

momentum in the world. Mario Cristobal has built a roster loaded with talent, and Miami looks

like the team everyone else in the ACC is chasing.

They replaced Carson Beck with Darian Mensah, the former Duke quarterback who gave

Clemson problems, and they still have one of the conference's biggest stars in Malachi Toney.

Miami finally looks like a program that has gotten over the hump.

Right behind them is Clemson.

Louisville remains one of the conference's most consistent programs under Jeff Brohm and

should once again be in the mix.

SMU continues to rise under Rhett Lashlee and returns quarterback Kevin Jennings. Clemson

fans remember the battle between the Tigers and Mustangs in the 2024 ACC Championship

Game. SMU isn't going anywhere.

Virginia Tech is another team to watch. The Hokies made a splash with the hiring of James

Franklin, and recruiting has taken off since his arrival. Add in an impressive portal class, and

Virginia Tech suddenly looks like a serious contender.

Georgia Tech losing significant production, especially quarterback Haynes King, opens the door

for teams like Louisville and Virginia Tech to take another step forward in the conference race.

So who are the true contenders in the ACC entering 2026?

Miami.

Clemson.

SMU.

Louisville.

Virginia Tech.

Those are the five teams that stand out heading into the season.

The biggest game on Clemson's schedule may come on October 3 when Miami comes to Death

Valley. That game could have major implications for the ACC Championship race and possibly

even the College Football Playoff.

The path for Clemson is fairly simple.

The Tigers do not have to be perfect, but they cannot afford multiple ACC losses. A 10-2 record

or even a 9-3 record could be enough to put Clemson in Charlotte and keep playoff hopes alive.

The key is staying near the top of the conference standings and avoiding costly losses.

1. Miami

2. Clemson

3. SMU

4. Louisville

5. Virginia Tech

Clemson may not enter the season as the top dog in the ACC, but the Tigers absolutely have

the talent to compete for a conference championship and a College Football Playoff berth.

The pieces are there.

The talent is there.

Now it's about proving it on the field.

This is going to be one of the most important and fascinating seasons of the Dabo Swinney era.
