Run Cade, Run: Clemson is Still Alive

Cade Klubnik probably won’t win the Heisman, but his thrilling 50-yard quarterback draw—a “got-to-have-it” rushing touchdown with just over a minute left in the game—may be the Tigers’ greatest play of the season so far. It also prevented what could have been one of Clemson’s worst collapses in recent memory.

The 50-yard touchdown brought Clemson from a 20-17 deficit to a 24-20 lead with 1:16 left on the clock. The Tigers’ defense sealed the game by intercepting a final pass near the end zone, allowing Clemson to escape yet another ACC road stadium with a victory.

No. 20 Clemson went into halftime leading 17-3 and maintained that score going into the fourth quarter. However, they were outplayed for much of the second half, teetering on the edge of an epic meltdown.

Klubnik’s heroic run prevented a disastrous fourth-quarter collapse and kept Clemson’s hopes alive for a potential ACC Championship appearance.

Klubnik finished the game 27-of-41 for 288 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also added the game-winning score on the ground, accounting for 329 of the team’s 346 total yards (a staggering 95%).

The Tigers now sit at 8-2 overall and 7-1 in ACC play, hoping that one of the two teams ahead of them—Miami or SMU—will stumble, giving Clemson a chance to sneak into the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte.

Looking Ahead

This week, The Citadel visits Death Valley after defeating Wofford in Spartanburg on Saturday. The game, scheduled for Military Appreciation Day, kicks off at 3:30 PM. The forecast calls for a crisp November day, with highs not expected to climb out of the 50s—perfect football weather.

Clemson will close out the regular season at home against South Carolina in a match-up shaping up to be one of the most exciting in years. Both teams are playing well, and South Carolina boasts one of its strongest rosters in a long time. Rumors are swirling that ESPN’s College GameDay might make an appearance. While unconfirmed, only time will tell.

IBO will be live on-site to cover the game and will announce its broadcast time as soon as kickoff details are finalized.

Bounce Back Complete: Clemson Still Has a Path to the ACC Title Game

After a tough loss at home last week, Clemson hit the road Saturday to face Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. The 23rd-ranked Tigers entered as favorites against the Hokies. Although they started slow, Clemson rallied in the second half, scoring 24 unanswered points to secure a 24-14 victory.

Clemson's comeback demonstrated resilience, proving that it’s not always about how you start but how you finish. However, questions remain about the Tigers’ playoff potential, particularly concerning the stability of the offensive line and defensive depth.

Following last week’s loss, the Tigers showcased significant improvement, especially in the second half. Cade Klubnik provided a needed spark by executing critical plays, while the defense effectively limited the Hokies’ ground game. The second half underscored the adage: it's better late than never.

A week after dropping their first ACC game to Louisville, Clemson moved to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the ACC, avoiding what would have been consecutive losses for the first time since the 2010-11 season.

Virginia Tech, now unranked, fell to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the ACC, with Hokies' coach Brent Pry still seeking his first win over a top-25 team.

Entering the game with just a 9% chance to make the ACC title game, the Tigers now head into their final conference matchup against No. 18 Pitt. With a win, Clemson could remain in contention for one of the two championship spots—and an automatic bid to the College Football Playoff.

“The defense was the story of the night,” Coach Swinney remarked.

Looking ahead, Swinney noted, “We have 21 days left in our season and a lot of opportunity out there. We just have to show up and take it one day at a time.”

Clemson Focuses on Rebounding After Loss to Louisville

After a tough loss to Louisville, Coach Dabo Swinney took the stage to discuss key injuries and preparations for Saturday’s game against Virginia Tech. With Clemson's ACC Championship hopes dwindling, Swinney is focused on the positives: regaining momentum and fostering leadership within the Clemson staff and roster.

“We’re excited about having another opportunity this week,” Swinney said at the Smart Media Center. “It’s a tough challenge. We’re up against a team very similar to the one we just played—experienced and full of talent.”

Virginia Tech has shown resilience, fighting down to the wire in games this season. With four losses by a combined 21 points, Swinney noted they are, in his words, “four plays from being undefeated.”

When asked about Peter Woods and Tre Williams, Swinney reported that both players are progressing and improving day by day, though they remain questionable for Saturday.

Virginia Tech lost 38-31 in overtime to Syracuse on Saturday, playing without starting quarterback Kyron Drones and lead running back Bhayshul Tuten. Drones was sidelined with a “lower body injury,” and Tuten has an ankle issue. “They’re both questionable now,” Coach Pry said. “They’re obviously better than they were.”

These teams first met in 1900. Clemson has won the last six meetings and leads the series 23-12-1. Virginia Tech’s last win in the series came in 2007.

With a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, both teams are hungry for a win. Clemson is currently third in the ACC standings, holding onto slim hopes for an ACC Championship berth in December. The plan remains simple: focus on one game at a time, one play at a time. The rest is beyond their control. With only four regular season games left, it will be interesting to see how it all plays out as we enter the final stretch of the season.
