Miami Upsets No. 3 Clemson 8-7 to Advance in ACC Tournament

Miami (Fla.) secured an 8-7 victory over No. 3 Clemson in the ACC Tournament at Truist Field on Thursday, advancing to the semifinal round and improving their record to 27-29. Clemson, now 40-14, fell behind after Miami scored five runs in the second inning, including a three-run homer by Antonio Jimenez and a two-run double by Daniel Cuvet.

Clemson initially took the lead with a two-run double by Jarren Purify in the top of the second inning but couldn’t maintain it. Despite scoring on a passed ball in the third inning and adding two runs in the eighth with doubles by Jimmy Obertop and Cam Cannarella, Clemson couldn’t catch up. Miami’s Jake Kulikowski hit a solo homer in the eighth to extend the lead, and despite Jacob Hinderleider’s solo homer in the ninth, Miami held on.

Gage Ziehl earned the win with six effective innings, allowing six hits and three runs. Myles Caba secured his fifth save of the season. Ethan Darden took the loss for Clemson. Clemson will face No. 7 seed Louisville on Friday to conclude their ACC Tournament run.
