Clemson University has a long celebrated military history that will be celebrated during the week of November 6, ending with the football game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at noon on Saturday, November 11. The campus community comes together annually to celebrate the military heritage and
traditions that Clemson has long been known for.
Among the events planned is Green Zone Training for the university’s employees, a training for them to be aware of who the students are that are transitioning from military life to life on a university campus. In order to best serve the military students, employees gain an awareness not only of who these
students are, but an understanding of their military experience as well. Green Zone Training is an endeavor to best help military-connected and veteran students and to provide them access to the most valuable on and off campus resources available.
Also in honor of Clemson’s military history, there will be the planting of flags at the Scroll of Honor Memorial, as well as the Marine Corps birthday celebration to recognize and honor members of the
community. The full schedule of events and those open to the public can be found by clicking here.
In March 2023, Clemson University earned silver status as a Military Friendly School for the second consecutive year. This honor is achieved through evaluations of public data sources and responses to surveys. Out of almost 2000 schools who participated in the survey, 665 were given special awards for
going above the standard. Kayla Lopez, the National Director of Military Partnerships stated, “Our standards provide a benchmark that promotes positive outcomes and support services that better the educational landscape and provide opportunity for the military community. Schools who achieve
award designation show true commitment in their efforts, going above and beyond that standard. (March 29, 2023)
A special highlight of this week will be the military appreciation brunch on Tuesday, November 7 at
Hendrix Student Center. Featured will be Clemson University President Jim Clements addressing the
crowd, as well as an appearance by the keynote speaker, U.S. Retired Army veteran Marion Collins.
Step onto the campus at Clemson University and take part in a walk through history and the military
