#17 Georgia knocks off #4 Clemson Baseball in 15 inning showdown

In an epic showdown at Foley Field on Tuesday night, the No. 17 Georgia Bulldogs outlasted the No. 4 Clemson Tigers in a thrilling 15-inning battle, securing a hard-fought 4-3 victory. This marathon clash lasted an astounding five hours and 30 minutes, showcasing the determination and endurance of both teams. With this impressive win, the Bulldogs improved their season record to 30-10, while the Tigers’ record dropped to 32-8.

The Bulldogs’ offensive prowess was on full display throughout the game, as they capitalized on key opportunities to secure the win. They opened the scoring with an unearned run in the second inning, courtesy of Paul Toetz’s two-out single. In the third inning, Blake Wright extended his hitting streak to an impressive 10 games with a clutch two-out, two-run triple. The Bulldogs continued to build their lead when Cannarella led off the fourth inning with his seventh homer of the year.

Despite the Bulldogs’ early lead, the Tigers fought back fiercely. Corey Collins delivered a pivotal run-scoring single in the seventh inning, cutting Clemson’s deficit in half. In the ninth inning, Collins once again came through in the clutch with a one-out single to tie the score, forcing the game into extra innings. Alden Mathes’ throw to the plate on the play retired Charlie Condon, prolonging the intense battle.

In the decisive 15th inning, the Bulldogs capitalized on two walks and a hit-by-pitch to load the bases with just one out. A crucial errant pitch allowed Toetz to score the walkoff run, sealing the victory for Georgia in dramatic fashion.

On the pitching front, Chandler Marsh earned the win for the Bulldogs, improving his record to 1-0. Meanwhile, Chance Fitzgerald suffered the loss for Clemson, dropping to 0-1. Despite the tough loss, Clemson’s pitching staff showcased resilience, allowing just three earned runs and eight hits, all singles, throughout the marathon contest.

Looking ahead, the Tigers will regroup as they prepare to travel to Louisville for a highly anticipated three-game series, set to commence Friday at 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
